PROJECT 1
Wire Sculpture
The Representative of Line to Explore Volumetric Organic Forms
In this individual work, we are to conduct research on the element of metal wire to construct 3 Dimensional form. By using our visual structural drawing skills, we are to transfer our research of organic subject matter into a series of development drawing that shows studies of 3-Dimensional form of the object outcome, and the various stages of its production.
FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
I chose the American-spurred tortoise because I like its unique pattern on the shell. It is the third-largest species of tortoise in the world. I also picked another small animal to place on top of the tortoise shell to make the sculpture looks more interesting. Therefore, I chose garden snail because it has swirl-shape shell which is very different compared to the tortoise which forms a comparison in terms of pattern and size.

Reflection
This is my first time making wire sculpture. It looks complicated at first, but trust me, it is not that difficult once you have done the main structure. It works exactly like the one-line art, drawing the basic shape of the tortoise and slowly developing into the details, but in 3-Dimensional form.
The most challenging part is to connect the joint with wires. I do not prefer using cable ties because it will make the joints look obvious. I used another wire to tie the joints tightly and then use the same wire to form another part of my sculpture, so the lines (wires) are continuous.
I used different colour to form the garden snail so that the overall sculpture looks more interesting. I also used gold wire to enhance the eyes of tortoise and I am quite happy with the final outcome. Overall speaking, I enjoyed this assignment because it is fun to explore a brand new material which I never use before.
