PROJECT 2
Plastic Sculpture
The Creative Process of 3 Dimensional Plastic Form
In this project 2, we need to conduct research on found plastic forms materials for building up our chosen organic sculpture. By using our creativity and visualization skills, we are to transfer our research into a series of visual idea developmental drawing that shows studies of 3-Dimensional sculpture of that product and the stages of its form making process.
FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
I choose rooster as my subject matter because I am attracted by its feathers’ shape and arrangement. I find it interesting to work on the layering of feathers and explore the methods to bend the tail feathers. I also like its eye-catching features, the red comb and wattles which are easy to recognize from a distance. According to traditional Chinese zodiac analysis, rooster is the representative of confidence and intelligence. I do not plan to make it too colorful because I want to highlight its comb, wattles and beak which cannot be found on other animals.

Reflection
This project is very different compared to the previous project (Project 1), in terms of materials and method of handling it. I have planned more than I expected before working on the plastic bottle because I had to consider on the limitation of the material.
As a whole, plastic bottle is harder to bend into my desire shape, so my solution is to break it down into parts and stick them using hot glue gun. I also found that there are different textures and curve angle on different type of plastic bottles, which I combined them to form different body parts of a rooster. I like to experiment on the arrangement to see the different end results. From this project, I explored some methods to cut, join, bend, overlap, twist and paint the plastic bottles, and completed a rooster sculpture.
